zerofee

back in march we were given the challenge of creating a poster for a course we felt was worth making awareness for.
I chose to tackle the problem of body image and the damage the media has on our body confidence.

i started by brain storming on postits and then took a few of the ideas further...

taking old language and merging it with a typical modern conversations. the idea is to make the modern woman question there values and what is important.

literaly cutting the crap out of modern publications and seeing what , if anything of value is left.

Again with the old and new. a classic beauty and what she would have to to to maintain that title in today's society.

my final out come was a campaign called pinksatin, aimed at creating awareness of this problem and also a blog with helpful information and a hub for anyone who whats to have there say.

this is the blinded by beauty poster, but the text it not on this one

this was my main poster, at a first glance it could be seen as a underwear ad or a seductive poster, but when you look closer and rear the strategically places information you realist that you are a victim of this media game, luring people in with suggestive images which are the cause of many peoples body issues.
you may also want to look at the blog, it is in early stages but there are some interesting things up. click here

eye heart ewe deer

.

This was my piece for the 101 exhibition. taking inspiration from my dear collage

using a fish eye, (previously a beautiful blue sheep eye , but i put it in the freezer and it got frost bite. )
an ox heart with was frozen then defrosted and bled out during the 3 day exhibition and a ewe's skull
I created a rebus transfer .
I was very pleased with the final out come and found it very interesting to over hear and receive peoples reactions and opinions.
a few people didn't understand what is was saying. I did have a small typed description below but I thought it was quite obvious?
never the less i am rather pleased, just a shame it couldn't last longer. bit stinky.

for the arty farty bit behind it... i wanted to portray the darker side of love and how real love is not always flowers and rainbows. but grim, gutting, savage and unnerving.

101 exibition

The 101 exhibition was put together by a group of the fda students. the idea behind the exhibition was to create a one off pieces that took inspiration form one chosen collage, out of the 100 created for the '100 collage exhibition' back in 1st term. so 101.

here are some my favorite pieces.
unfortunately the pieces were not named so i am unable to give credit were it is due.

PICK ME UP

Here is some of the work that was at the pick me up exhibition.

Rob Ryan

I have been a little obsessed with Rob Ryan romantic works for quite some time now. so when i read that he would be relocating his studio to summer set house i got very excited.
the idea of being able to look round one of your idols studios seem very special, a glimps into the world of a artists mined and habitat.

however, once there my bubble was burst, or at least bruised when i saw 3 girls working on a huge Rob Ryan piece. this too away form the magic, the idea of rob spending hours and overs lovingly cutting out his creations, seeing it slowly form, a labor of love. but no , instead it was his interns getting the blisters, and no credit.

in some ways, I wish i had not gone, but then again, you cant live in a fantasy world, which is exactly what Ryans art is, romantic fantasy.

A very disheartening visit, but also a well needed reality check.

rob ryan exhibition

I based my essay on rob ryan so i am very excited to see he is taking part in the pick me up exhibition which is happening now. the exhibition has asked graphic designers to relocate there studios to summerset house for a few weeks, this s so the general public can see them at work and as rob said on his blog " come say hello". so i plan to do just that. i am also going to try and bag a cheeky interview. if i do i will post it on here, just need to think of some good questions.
i love rob ryan.

sea life

my trip to the London aquarium.

im not sure what im going to do with these yet tho ?

the main reason for my eager visit was down to a scene in my favorite film 'closer' it it the only film that im able to watch over and over. it portrays the raw truths of love and relationships and ironically how its not always like it is in the films.
plus Natalie Portman plays a stripper.
love love love

14 words but together that make a strong statement

This was a ad i crated for the junk show live, were the very best will be on display for others to see.
it would also be a grate networking event and a change for all the re-mixers to meet each other. i created this design with simplicity in mined. but all the elements are there, a remix, eye catching, the venue, date brand event name and web address if they want to fined out more.
As its been a wile since my last post i have now completed project 2 and am awaiting the grade. we came up with 'JUNKSHOW' which was a web based collaboration sight. were people could up load images that were no longer wanted for other people to play around with then to create something new. we would also pic the best designs to go int a gallery exhibition and also transfer the designs on to t-shirts , bags and other merchandise. here are some of the branding visuals.

the remix web page, with simple up and down load buttons and sight navigation.

possible lay out for the gallery space.

working in a group was a grate experience as it is the sort of thing that i will have to do in the 'real world', with similar problems and conflicts. over all i enjoyed this project fut ironically i feel i could have got more done by myself.

project 2: networking.

for the next few weeks i will be working with 3 second years to come up with a way of making our self's more employable via the means of social networking sights and the web.

initial ideas include:
holding a creative event sending info via the web.
create a online portfolio to show off work to a wide audience.
creative site with regular updates and ways to get involved.
get some publicity through the press in some way.
chain mail of work, sent everywhere to gain maximum views.

ill let you know how it goes.

darrent drawing workshop

so at first i was a bit skeptical but at the end of the session i was converted. drawing with the wring hand and with out looking DOSE create some lovely imagery.

so in reverse. this was mt final image, 'drawing with paper' and then drawing details without looking at the paper. the things i like about this image is the freedom and craft look , the contrasting paper creates a crisp clean look and the fussy messy pencil mixes well with this. i would however quite like to go back over the drawing with a pen and able to actually look at what im doing.

this was my second to last image. drawing with the wrong hand and not looking, with text over the top. ( i cant spell anyway but not being able to see what im doing seams to increase this problem). i think the main thing that makes there images work is that the subject, text and drawing style all tie neatly together , there all young and playful.

this was my first drawing. a normal style of drawing were by looking at the paper and using my right hand. then when i was told not to look at the paper and to use the wrong hand i thought the out come would b horrid and i came to the lesson to create 'better' drawings after all. but the looking and comparing my first drawing with the last i would completely agree.

the first drawing is stiff and the expression and feel of the character is a bit unsure and uptight, just like my drawing style.
in comparison to my final two images which show much more playful and happy characteristics.

a very insightful lesson.

and here was my muse, Robby the robot.
i hope to make him famous my creating some screen prints.
